Monetary Awards for Teachers

 

All Licensed Personnel applying for a grant should receive approval from their site administrator.

 

Reminder: Per CCSD Regulation 3221, any grant application in excess of $25,000, requiring an MOU or other special factors, must be applied through the Grants Development and Administration Department. If you wish to apply, please call 799-3355.

Foreign Language Teacher Awards

 

ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) Awards
The council provides numerous awards for educators.

 

ACTFL Melba D. Woodruff Award

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) presents the Melba D. Woodruff Award, which recognizes an outstanding elementary-level foreign language program for students in grades K-6. Candidate programs must describe how they are exemplary in the following areas: (1) Program model that articulates a plan for sequential language learning from elementary to high school, and includes periodic program evaluation; (2) Curriculum aligned with the World Readiness Standards for Language Learning; (3) Collaboration among building or district colleagues, both language teachers and classroom teachers; and (4) Program promotes and advocates for early language learning in the community. Nominations and self-nominations may be made only by ACTFL members.

 

Elgin Heinz Outstanding Teacher Award
The Elgin Heinz Outstanding Teacher Award was approved by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees in September 2001 and recognizes exceptional teachers who further mutual understanding between Americans and Japanese. The award is presented annually to two pre-college teachers in two categories, humanities and Japanese language, and consists of a certificate of recognition, a $2,500 monetary award, and $5,000 in project funds. It is named in honor of Elgin Heinz for his commitment to educating students about Asia as well as for the inspiration he has provided to the field of pre-college education.

 

Jane Harriman Hall Professional Development Scholarship Program
This professional development scholarship program honors Jane Harriman Hall, founder of the National Latin Exam, in order to continue her efforts to bring high-quality Latin instruction to students throughout the United States. The program is designed to support teachers in their ability to teach Latin. Applicants must be current teachers of Latin in a prekindergarten through grade 12 public or private school.

 

Japanese-Language Education Project Grant

For programs that promote Japanese-language education on a national, state, or regional level. Priority is given to projects that benefit as many Japanese language teachers, programs, and learners as possible in a wide region or nationwide.

 

Florence Steiner Awards for Leadership in Foreign Language Education
ACTFL is giving $500 to a K-12 foreign language teacher who is a member of the ACTFL.
