American Civic Education Teacher Awards
The American Civic Education Teacher Awards recognize educators annually for exemplary work in preparing young people to be informed and engaged citizens. Maximum award: trip to Washington, D.C. to take part in an educational program that includes attending floor sessions and committee hearings in the U.S. Congress, meeting members of Congress and other key officials, and visiting historical sites such as the National Archives and the U.S. Supreme Court. Eligibility: elementary and secondary teachers of civics, government, and related subjects who have demonstrated special expertise in motivating students to learn about the Constitution, Congress, and public policy.
American Historical Association: Beveridge Family Teaching Prize
The American Historical Association Beveridge Family Teaching Prize recognizes excellence and innovation in elementary, middle school, and secondary history teaching, including career contributions and specific initiatives. Maximum award: $1,500. Eligibility: K-12 teachers.

John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Awards
Each year the Council for Economic Education (CEE) recognizes three United States educators with the John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Awards. This award promotes excellence in economic education at the K-12 level by honoring inspirational teachers whose innovative teaching concepts improve and stimulate economic understanding in and out of their classrooms and achieve results.

To honor and recognize USA teachers in private and public high schools for their meaningful contributions in the area of law-related education.
Learning for Justice Educator Fund
The LFJ Educator Fund funds three types of projects: classroom level, school level and district level. For all project types, we seek to fund projects that culminate in measurable student outcomes and sustainable systems change. Educators throughout the U.S. may apply. Priority will be given to eligible proposals operating in the SPLC’s core states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
National Council for the Social Studies: Defense of Academic Freedom Award
The NCSS Defense of Academic Freedom Award is given annually to honor those who have distinguished themselves in defending the principles of academic freedom in specific controversies, in fostering academic freedom through advocacy, and in defending or advocating the freedom to teach and learn. Maximum award: $1,500; commemorative gift; Annual Conference session presentation; publicity. Eligibility: classroom teachers, professionals in other areas of education, students, parents, community groups, and members of other organizations (preference will be given to social studies educators) who are or have been engaged in activities that support academic freedom in the face of personal challenge or promote awareness of and support for academic freedom. The defense or advocacy of academic freedom must have been related to the teaching of social studies.
National Endowment for the Humanities
Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops for Schoolteachers
The National Endowment for the Humanities is an independent grant-making agency of the federal government. As part of the NEH’s We the People program, we offer the following Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops for Schoolteachers. Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops provide the opportunity for K-12 educators to engage in intensive study and discussion of important topics in American history. These one-week academies will give participants direct experiences in the interpretation of significant historical sites and the use of archival and other primary historical evidence. Landmarks Workshops present the best scholarship on a specific landmark or related cluster of landmarks, enabling participants to gain a sense of the importance of historical places, to make connections between what they learn in the Workshop and what they teach, and to develop enhanced teaching materials for their classrooms.
National Endowment for the Humanities
Summer Seminars and Institutes for School Teachers
The National Endowment for the Humanities is an independent grant-making agency of the Federal Government. Each year the NEH’s Division of Education Programs offers teachers opportunities to study humanities topics in a variety of Summer Seminars and Institutes.
National Council for Geographic Education
The NCGE College/University and K-12 Distinguished Teaching Achievement Awards recognize outstanding geography teaching in the colleges, universities, and schools of the United States and Canada, including U.S. Department of Defense schools abroad. NCGE invites nominations for the 2007 awards.
National Council for the Social Studies: Teacher of the Year
The NCSS Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards recognize exceptional classroom social studies teachers. Maximum award: $2,500. Eligibility: social studies teachers who teach social studies regularly and systematically in elementary school settings or at least half time in middle/junior high and high school settings; NCSS membership required, self-nominations accepted.

Christa McAuliffe Reach for the Stars Award
The purpose of the $2,500 grant is to help a social studies educator make his or her dream of innovative social studies a reality. Grants will be given to assist classroom teachers in: 1) developing and implementing imaginative, innovative, and illustrative social studies teaching strategies; and 2) supporting student implementation of innovative social studies, citizenship projects, field experiences, and community connections.
National History Day’s History Channel Award for an Outstanding Contribution to History Education
The History Channel presents this award to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to history education through service to the National History Day program. The winner receives $5,000 and a special plaque that is presented at the NHD national contest in June. To be eligible, the individual must be a participant in the National History Day program and may be a teacher, media specialist, district or state History Day coordinator, judge, or parent. Nominees are evaluated based on success in involving students in the program, service to the History Day program, and service to the discipline of history in general.
National History Teacher of the Year
This award recognizes exceptional K–12 American history teachers across the country. Nominate a teacher today! National winner chosen from among state winners receives a $10,000 prize presented at an award ceremony in their honor in New York City. State winners receive a $1,000 prize, an archive of classroom resources, and recognition at a ceremony in their state.
Organization of American Historians
The Organization of American Historians sponsors an annual award to recognize the contributions made by pre-collegiate or classroom teachers to improve history education. The award is given for activities that enhance the intellectual development of other history teachers and/or students.Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year AwardSponsored by the National Council for the Social Studies, this award is given to outstanding teachers, researchers, and other individuals and programs. This program recognizes classroom social studies teachers for grades K-6, 5-8, and 7-12, who teach social studies regularly.

The award, to be given for activities that enhance the intellectual development of other history teachers or students, memorializes the career of Mary K. Bonsteel Tachau, University of Louisville, for her path-breaking efforts to build bridges between university and precollegiate history teachers.
Veterans of Foreign Wars
The VFW’s National Citizenship Education Teachers’ Award recognizes the nation’s top elementary, junior high and high school teachers who regularly teach citizenship education topics and promote America’s history and traditions. Winning teachers and their schools receive 1,000 dollars.
