Support projects in rural areas that deliver technology education resources for computer science and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education classes and extracurricular activities with the goal of enabling rural students to better recognize and explore technology careers and pathways to the computer industry. Proposed projects should be teacher and student led in public schools and libraries with a focus on technology career areas including the following: computer science, computer engineering, information technology, programming, cyber security, and robotics, among others. Grants may provide limited equipment such as microcomputers and robotics kits. In some situations, the fund partners with rural school districts to provide equipment for entire maker spaces. Also funded are early-stage robotics classes, teams, and clubs. Emphasis is on projects that help introduce and teach students about computer technology through opportunities to solve real-world problems; reach multiple students equitably; and help establish ongoing interest groups such as coding clubs. Among restrictions are projects that use computers to teach traditional subjects, not computer- learning focused; for only gifted and talented students; and limited to a few students. Click here.
